Oakland Housing Authority

Founded in 1938, the Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) currently provides subsidized housing to nearly 16,500 families. As the largest provider of affordable housing in Oakland, OHA serves a diverse community in neighborhoods throughout the city. Our dedicated staff remains steadfast in its effort to gauge existing needs and provide meaningful opportunities for our families, in addition to expanding the availability of quality housing.

Why Work for OHA

Sick Leave
is accrued at the rate of one day per month.
Vacation Leave
for new employees is accrued at the rate of 10 days each year.
Benefit Package
Management, supervisory, professional and confidential employees are also entitled to a management benefit package allowance and 40 hours of administrative leave per year.
Paid Holidays
14 holidays for unrepresented employees, and 15 for represented employees.
Floating Holidays
1 holiday for unrepresented employees, 2 holidays for represented employees.
Retirement
The Authority is a member of CalPE​RS  Retirement System, plus optional participation in pre/post-tax 457 deferred compensation plans.  The Authority participates in Social Security and Medicare.
Group Life Insurance
is fully paid by the Authority.
Health, Dental and Vision
Insurance are available. The Authority pays up to 100% of the least costly family plan premiums for all employees.​

Work-Life Balance
At OHA, we recognize the importance of work-life balance and are dedicated to supporting the personal and professional well-being of our employees. In addition to generous paid leave benefits, the Housing Authority operates on a 9/80 work schedule, thus closing its offices every other Friday and giving employees an added day off every other week.  (Monday through Thursday is a nine (9) hour day and the Friday that is worked is an eight (8) hour day.)
